As a fellow creative, I’ve had my fair share of writer's block and unfortunate cases of procrastination. One ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’ turns into another, and another, until eventually it’s been a week and you’ve only gotten a few words down…but not Fred again... He, alongside the Mexican trio of brother’s Latin Mafia, locked themselves away for fifty hours in the trio’s home studio in Lago Algo in Bosque Chapultepec, CDMX with the sole purpose of bringing to life the album they had spent over nine months conceptualizing (Billboard). Together, they created a hypnotic EDM album that zaps and satisfyingly scratches the mind with unique blends of sound that reverberate in the body and soul.

Who are they? Respected artists on their own merit, each already had a loyal following before collaborating. Latin Mafia first emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, when brothers Emilio and Mike de la Rosa, the singers of the group, posted a video on Tiktok pretending they were children singing to a large audience. They brought in their third brother Milton de la Rosa to help as producer of the group. Together they released their first song titled “Ciudad de las Luces,” a song about wishing a crush to turn into something more (Wikipedia).

The song quickly blew up with over 50,000 views on Facebook, the amount of online engagement reaffirming their talent. From there, Latin Mafia would go onto debut in the U.S. at Lollapalooza in April of 2024 without a label or an album. That same year, they captured the attention of Grammy-nominated producer Frederick John Philip Gibson, pseudonym Fred again…

Fred showed love for Latin Mafia’s debut album, “Todos Los Días Todo El Día”(2024) calling their sound, "beautiful but surprising but contained but adventurous"(Rolling Stone). Fred had long been producing before the trio, having already collaborated with big name artists like Charli XCX and Demi Lovato, when he won Producer of the Year at the Brit Awards in 2020–the youngest to ever win the title (Wikipedia). Both artists' music capture the depth of human emotion in a new, exciting way that feels like a breath of fresh air. The two performed together on the last show of Fred’s USB002 tour in Mexico City, Dec. 11th, 2025, displaying their similar styles and chemistry that would inspire them to livestream, record, and publish their album 9 months and 50 hours.

Just as the title states, after nine months of collaboration, this livestream mixtape was started on July 28th of 2026 and was not only completed on July 31st, but performed just three hours after finishing the project. The impromptu concert sold out thirty minutes after being announced for El Palacio de Deportes in CDMX (Billboard). From producing, to singing, to snacking and sleeping; everything was on display for all of the internet to see, so when fans were able to sing along to the freshly made album at the live show that same evening. The electric energy at the show left little room for doubt: fans love it.

One song that audiences were especially excited to hear was track twelve titled “Te Estoy Correteando,” which Latin Mafia had teased an acoustic version on Instagram Live the year prior.

Beginning with the classic, steady scratch of a Cumbia beat, the song eases us into rhythmic dance.

The duo vocals of Latin Mafia roughly translates into the following: "I’m chasing after you. Get out of my head because I want to see you. It’s been several days that I’ve been sick with the thought of you. C’mon, come cure me. Tell me, what have you been up to? Miss me. I miss you.”

The brothers sultry and mournful vocals capture what it feels to deeply miss someone and wish you could see them again, even if maybe things didn’t work out. The reverberation of melodic tesla coils are used create a new overlaid melody, bringing one of Mexico’s most iconic sounds into a cybernetic future. You don’t have to speak Spanish to understand the depth and emotion behind the wailing lyrics of Fred and Latin Mafia. The relatable themes and sense of catharsis led to Te Estoy Correteando earning 1.7 millions clicks in the first week alone. From yearning after a failed love, to not feeling enough, this album helps listeners embrace and release that pain in community as they dance and sing along; this album reminds us that while we may hurt, we are alive.

The bilingual 14-track mixtape has a distinct personality in each addicting song, and it surprised no one when 9 months and 50 hours debuted at number one on Top Latin Pop Albums. The internet buzzed with excitement at the new project, leading it to also be also named number eight on Top Latin Albums and number nine on Top Dance Albums. With such momentum, fans can only hope tour dates come soon to mark their calendars and snag tickets in time for the next sold-out show. And as for future collaborations between Fred again .. and Latin Mafia, their electrifying chemistry is undeniable. It has gained the admiration of many new and loyal fans and has left this new fan hungry for more.
